Safety

Hypochlorite delivery fill points now locked

Following the release at the Kialla fill point on 5 September, all bulk chemical fill points at both plants are now locked. The duty operator holds the key and must be present for the whole delivery, check the docket against the tank and connect the hose. Drivers who arrive without an operator present must wait. Report any delivery that does not follow the procedure on the Incident Report Form.

Blue-green algae alert level in the raw water storage

The raw water storage is at the blue-green algae alert level. The offtake has moved to the lower level, the plant is running enhanced coagulation and powdered activated carbon is on standby. Do not let stock or dogs drink from the storage and report any scum on the water to the catchment team. The control centre will update this notice after each sample result.

Safety

Confined space rescue exercise, SPS 09

The six-monthly confined space rescue exercise for the Reyes and northern depot crews will be held at sewage pump station SPS 09 on 24 September from 8:00 am. Every entrant and standby person must attend. Bring your harness and gas detector for inspection. The exercise counts towards the confined space competency in the training matrix and is a condition of holding a permit.

Regulatory audit of the drinking water risk management plan

The approved auditor will audit the Drinking Water Quality Risk Management Plan on 20 and 21 October. The audit covers critical control point records, the excursion log, verification sampling, incident reports and operator training. Please make sure shift logs, bench test records and handover reports are complete and filed. Department managers will receive the document request list this week.

People

New starters and students: site induction dates

Site inductions for new starters, contractors and students on placement will run at the head office on 16 September and 14 October at 8:30 am, followed by plant tours at Kialla and Mooroopna. Nobody enters a treatment plant, depot or field site without a current induction. Bring your competency cards and photo identification for the training matrix.
